Amazed

I am absolutely speechless. Yes, I know that doesn't happen to me often, but I am. I am totally shocked at the feedback I have already received from my first post. I've gotten some great suggestions and support already and cannot wait to see what the future brings.

Thank you to those of you who have responded and are following my blog. I hope to not disappoint.

I'm going to make it short today and when I have more time I'm going to share a bit more about my first few weeks in the C25K program. But just in case there are any of you out there wanting to start the program I found my information by google, coolrunnings.com, and the iPhone app that I downloaded. (Just search couch to 5k and it'll bring up quite a few apps. I actually purchased the one that was $2.99 and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!) As I said above, I don't have a lot of time tonight, but I will try to post the program soon...until then you can find it from the above sites. Also, those of you living in Tulsa - Fleet Feet has a C25K program. I'm not actually participation there, but from friends I hear it's great! I will say they are great at helping get you into good running shoes if you need them. I did!

Please continue to post your comments. If you have any thoughts on what you would like me to post, please let me know. Tell your family and your friends. I don't want this to be just about me...I want it to be about YOU too! So my challenge to you is this...LETS GET FIT TOGETHER!

PROGRESS:
I do need to "pat myself on the back" just a little.
This morning I got up (by myself...the roomie slept in) and hit the gym at 6:15. I knew it was a running day and I couldn't skip out. When I opened my app to start my day I was ready for it. My 5 minute warm up was great and then came the first 1 1/2 minute run...I did it quite easy. Then came the dreaded 1 1/2 minute walk preparing me for the 3, yes that's right the first of two 3 minute runs. Much to my surprise, I was able to complete the whole 3 minute run without having to stop. Not even for the shins today. After a 3 minute cool down and another 1 1/2 minute run and walk came my second and final 3 minute run for the day. I was not sure I could do it. After about a minute into the run I realized I could do it...and I DID! I was so excited after I finished my 3 minute run and the 5 minute cool down because I had completed all of my runs without having to take a break. And the kicker was - much to my surprise - I had just completed week 3. That's right, Friday morning I will be starting week 4. Kicking it up!!

Again - thank you to those of you have taken the time to respond to my posts and thank you to those that have taken the time to even read. I'm looking forward to helping us all on our journey.

  1. I've been looking at the C25K stuff and am getting psyched. I am working out a few logistics (as our neighborhood is all very steep hills so I am looking for more level ground) and then plan to start soon. I don't want to start and then quit, so I want it all worked out before I start.

Also, I am going to look into the app. I purchased a podcast that one of the sites recommended that has music with cues on when to walk, run, etc. Is your app like that?

Good job completing your week 3. You are already inspiring me!

  2. Shawna - I think it's a great idea to make sure that you're fully prepared before you start! I'm here for you!!

I did actually download some free podcasts, however I've found that I work better the "Get Running" app I downloaded and play my iPod at the same time. The podcasts didn't go along with the app so I ended up not using them. But you may find the podcasts work best for you.

That's for the kind words you've posted. It truly helps me continue each day knowing that others are also counting on me. If there's ever anything I can help you with let me know. Good luck!!
